How I Make Sure I Drink Enough Water

A well-hydrated body is a well-functioning body. But drinking enough water is something most people struggle with. So, here are 5 easy ways I use to ensure hydration.

how to make sure you drink enough water
It's Your Responsibililty to Provide Right Hydration to Your Body

I want you to think about this for a moment: How much water did you consume today?

Can you recall?

No?

Did you drink water at all?

Well, if not, then you belong to the majority. Not good.

But don't feel bad either. We are on the same page.

Water is extremely essential for us; everyone knows this. Yet, most of us are not even aware of how much water we are drinking, which is not much, I must add.

Not drinking enough water means that you are jeopardizing your metabolism and your overall health, and also letting toxins stay in your system for a longer amount of time. Again, not good!

My last post was about how you can calculate your daily water intake. I recommend you read my last post to know your daily requirements

So, I'm here today to discuss a few methods that are working well for me in making sure that I get at least 8-glasses of water, because I mostly forget as I don't have a habit of regularly drinking water.

But before I start, you have realize that you have to give some amount of commitment to it.

I'm not even going to mention apps (which is something you can definitely try), because I'm writing this post keeping in mind the hopeless, lazy people out there, who are too lazy to even get up to get a glass of water, let alone checking an app again and again.

I'm one of them.

So let's see what I do to make sure I get at least 2 L of water each day.

Note: This post contains affiliate links.

1. The 2-glasses method:

Okay, I just named it "the 2-glass method", probably not a great name, but this is something that I do and works the best when it comes to ensuring that I drink at least 2L of water every single day.

Basically what I do is: I drink 2-glasses of water immediately after I wake up, then 2-glasses before breakfast, 2-glasses before lunch, and 2-glasses before dinner. There you go, your 8-glasses per day is done!

Then, of course, I drink in between as much as I want. So my daily intake is actually more than 2L ever since I started my 30-days water challenge.

It's a good way to get started, especially when you have difficulty remembering to drink water.

All you have to do is remember to drink water immediately after waking up and before every meal, which in my experience is way more easier to remember than constantly thinking about water.

This way you will always have a well-hydrated start of the day. And even if you forget to drink water in between, you will still get 8-glasses of water each day.

2. Be BFFs With Your Water-Bottle:

.....or your glass. Whatever you prefer.

I prefer glass.

I keep a glass full of water next to me, at all times, and I carry one bottle of water if I'm going out. This way water is always in my reach.

I know you are lazy, and so am I. And one of the reasons that we delay drinking water is because we are too lazy to get up to get water again and again. So, to tackle this situation, I always keep a glass of water next to me- on my table or next to my bed.

Fill it immediately after you finish drinking it. Don't wait to fill your bottle the next time you're thirsty because then again the cycle of delay will repeat.

If you are using a water bottle, make sure you fill your bottle twice a day. I personally prefer a stainless-steel insulating water bottle.

I also keep a bottle ready right next to my bed when I go to sleep. This way I have a bottle ready to drink two glasses of water from first thing in the morning.

3. Make it More Refreshing!

Adding natural fruits to add flavour is great for someone who thinks plain water is boring.

I personally like the freshness and feel of plain water. But I do sometimes add the flavors just for fun.

I mostly add lemon slices to my water. Sometimes I squeeze the lemon juice, to make a very diluted lemon water. If you are squeezing, make sure that it is extremely diluted because lemon is acidic in nature, and your mouth may not tolerate the acidic drink all day long.

You can add slices of other fruits of your choice: cucumber, mint, watermelon, strawberries etc. You can use an infusion pitcher or simply your jug to store.

It's really simple and not time taking at all.

4. Add Water in Your Bullet Journal or To-Do List:

This is for all you bujo lovers. Of course, if you are into bullet journaling then you already know about the habit tracker element of bullet journal.

Adding water to your habit tracker is another good way that I found to be effective. Especially if you have a habit of keep on going through your bullet journal very frequently throughout the day, then this is going to be a really effective reminder for you. Because you know those empty spaces bug you.

Planner users can add it in their planner for the same effect.

You can even print my printable and stick it in your bullet journal so that it's even easier for you to track your intake.

5. Use The Free Printable:

There's something about writing things down.

Writing things down leads to more productivity. And basically, here you don't even have to "write".

Below you can find a printable. You can download that, it's free of cost and NO EMAIL REQUIRED (meaning you don't have to subscribe to my blog to get it) either. I created it as a part of my 30-days water challenge for anyone who is interested in taking part my 30-days water challenge. If you are really motivated to improve your water intake, I recommend you take part in the challenge too and download the free printable.

Keep this printable on your desk, in front of you, where you can see it. It will act as a reminder that you have a goal and that you need to drink water!

It will help you track how much water you consumed and will make sure that you reach your goal by the end of the day.

Consider each drop as 1 glass of water.

Marking off each drop will give you a sense of satisfaction, and you'll be more likely to accomplish your goal.

Try it out, and let me know if it worked for you.

Take advantage of this printable!

Conclusion:

It's very important to make sure you provide the right amount of hydration to your body. Using these 5 methods will definitely help you with that.

I don't like to complicate things, because I'm a lazy person myself. And I know having more options is not always good. Rather than seeking 50 different methods, just try out these 5 simple methods.

To wrap up:

⦿ Drink immediately after waking up in the morning, and before every meal.
⦿ Print the printable and mark it to monitor your intake.
⦿ Carry water everywhere, so that you can grab it whenever you need.
⦿ Add simple flavors, to make water more fun.
⦿ Put it in your bullet journal or to-do list, so that those empty spaces will motivate you to drink more.

Remember to not complicate things. Focus on one or two of these methods, and you will see positive results.

  1. I like the 2 glasses method, although one of my problem is that I can't drink plain water so much of it at a time. I've been trying to mix in lime juice to give it more taste. I'll try and see if I can implement this rule :) Thanks for sharing :)

    1. Yeah, I add lemon juice too sometimes. If you like it that way then there's no harm in adding the lemon juice, just make sure you make it very dilute esp if you are planning to drink it all day long. Let me know if it works for you.

  6. I have had an issue with not drinking enough since I was a little girl, my parents would have to make me it. As an adult I am only a little better with drinking water. I force myself to a little drink water a few times a day simply because I know its sometimes my body needs. I think my problem with water is that it’s tasteless so I use Crystal Lite packages for some flavor,

  10. I'm pretty good at staying hydrated, more so since I've been working at the kitchen table. I drink a pint every morning before breakfast, and then another couple of pints before lunch. Again in the afternoon before supper, and then another one with supper. Thereafter it slips to wine but at least the alcohol is diluted, haha! Great post, some super helpful tips here, thank you :)
